Dublin Business Network was delighted to host a recent joint business networking event with the Brazil-Ireland Chamber of Commerce at the IMI in Sandyford.
The event brought together members from both organisations in what proved to be a genuinely engaging and productive session. From the outset, there was a clear sense of curiosity in the room — not the polite, nod-along kind, but the more useful variety where people are actively listening, quietly assessing, and occasionally thinking, “there might actually be something in this.”
Both Dublin Business Network and the Brazil-Ireland Chamber of Commerce took the opportunity to formally introduce themselves to the assembled group. Each organisation provided an overview of its structure, its ethos, and — perhaps most importantly — how it delivers value to its members. For SMEs in particular, where time is tight and every commitment has to justify itself, this kind of clarity matters.
The Dublin Business Network outlined its focus on building strong, trust-based relationships among members, creating an environment where referrals are a natural by-product rather than the sole objective. Meanwhile, the Brazil-Ireland Chamber of Commerce highlighted its role in fostering business links between Ireland and Brazil, supporting companies navigating cross-border opportunities, offering meaningful support to Brazilian-owned businesses in Ireland and creating a platform for cultural as well as commercial exchange.
What followed was arguably the most valuable part of the session: each participating member had the opportunity to introduce their business to the wider group. These introductions — concise and refreshingly varied — offered a snapshot of the diversity within both networks. From professional services and consultancy to technology, finance, hospitality and beyond, the breadth of expertise in the room was evident.
Of course, no networking event is complete without the slightly delicate dance of business card exchanges, and this was handled with commendable ease. Conversations flowed naturally, helped in no small part by the relaxed setting and the shared understanding that nobody enjoys being “hard sold” before they’ve even finished their coffee.
And it was over that coffee — always the real proving ground of any networking event — that the tone of the day truly revealed itself. Rather than a scramble for immediate opportunities, there was a noticeable emphasis on getting to know one another, understanding where potential synergies might exist, and laying the groundwork for future collaboration.
What stood out most was the alignment between the two organisations in terms of philosophy. Both groups demonstrated a clear preference for relationship-building over quick wins, and for contributing value as members before seeking to benefit from referrals or leads. It’s a slower burn, certainly, but as anyone who has spent more than five minutes in business will tell you, it tends to produce far more sustainable results.
There was also an evident openness to collaboration, with members showing genuine interest in exploring how their respective networks might complement one another. Whether through shared insights, introductions, or future partnerships, the potential for ongoing engagement was clear.
Given the success of the event, it is anticipated that Dublin Business Network and the Brazil-Ireland Chamber of Commerce will look to build on this initial interaction with further joint initiatives. If the energy and goodwill on display are anything to go by, those future events should prove equally worthwhile — and, one would hope, equally well supplied with Brazilian coffee.
